Elmbridge has no tip of its own. Shepperton and Leatherhead open 8am to 4pm daily, Epsom shuts Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and all close at 2pm on Christmas Eve.
There is no tip inside Elmbridge. Surrey County Council runs the county’s 14 community recycling centres, and the three nearest the borough are at Shepperton, Leatherhead and Epsom.
None of them needs a booking. All three are closed to anyone arriving on foot.
The quick answer
- Shepperton and Leatherhead: 8am to 4pm Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm Saturday and Sunday
- Epsom is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and Lyne, near Chertsey, is closed on Thursdays and Fridays
- Christmas: every site closes at 2pm on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, and is shut on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day

At Epsom the household waste entrance is on Felstead Road, not Blenheim Road, which is the business waste entrance.
Christmas and bank holidays
Surrey publishes one rule for every site:
- Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve: closes at 2pm
- Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day: closed
- Easter and all other bank holidays: usual hours
Epsom’s and Lyne’s weekly closed days still apply. This year Christmas Eve is a Thursday, so Lyne will be shut all day on its normal pattern, and Epsom’s closed Tuesday and Wednesday fall on 22 and 23 December.

Do you need to book?
No. Surrey’s guidance says: “You need not need to book a visit to any of Surrey’s CRCs.” A trial booking system at Camberley and Lyne has finished.
What to bring the first time
You must be a Surrey resident. On your first visit staff will ask for proof of address, which Surrey says can be any of:
- your driving licence
- this year’s council tax bill
- a recent utility bill
- your Surrey bus pass
- any official document showing your name and address
You are then given a Surrey resident sticker for the car window, which covers later visits.
Two rules catch families out. Children below year 7 must stay in the vehicle, and so must pets.
No walking in
Pedestrians can use only four of Surrey’s sites: Caterham, Camberley, Warlingham and Woking. Shepperton, Leatherhead, Epsom and Lyne all refuse entry on foot. For an Elmbridge resident without a car, Woking is the nearest that will let you in.
Vans, pickups and trailers
All four nearby sites accept vans, pickups and trailers, but only with a Surrey van permit, which you need to apply for before you travel. Loose loads are not accepted in vans.
DIY and building waste
Shepperton, Leatherhead, Epsom and Lyne all take construction and DIY waste. Wood, doors, kitchen units, fencing, sheds, radiators and flooring are free from a car in any amount.
Rubble, soil, plasterboard, tiles, concrete and ceramic bathroom suites are free only within a limit, and no more than once every seven days:
- two bags, each no more than 50 litres and no bigger than 50cm by 77cm, or
- one large item up to 200cm by 75cm, or
- one sheet of plasterboard up to 120cm by 140cm

Payment is by Visa or Mastercard debit or credit card only. Cash, cheques and American Express are not accepted. Bicycle tyres and inner tubes are free.
Asbestos and business waste
Asbestos can be taken only to Epsom, Guildford and Shepperton, and Surrey asks you to read its asbestos guidance first.
Shepperton does not accept business waste. Leatherhead and Epsom do, through their waste transfer stations, and it is charged for.
Reuse shops
Shepperton and Leatherhead each have a Revive shop selling items that were brought in for disposal. The Shepperton shop keeps site hours but shuts from 11am to 11.30am and 1pm to 1.30pm. Epsom and Lyne have no shop.
Getting there
