Elmbridge Food Hygiene Ratings: 24 of 25 in September Get 5

Twenty-four of the 25 Elmbridge food hygiene ratings published so far for September scored the top mark of 5. No other month this year comes close: the next best on the register is February, at 77%.

The one exception is in Weybridge. Sii Shells, at 92 Church Street, was rated 2 after an inspection on 1 September 2026. A 2 means “improvement necessary”.

The figures come from the Food Standards Agency register for Elmbridge, downloaded this morning. The latest rating on it is dated 21 September, so a few late-September inspections may still be added. The register keeps only each business’s latest rating, so earlier months lose any premises that has since been inspected again.

What the Weybridge inspection found

Each inspection scores three areas. The register entry for Sii Shells, listed as a retailer, shows:

• Hygienic food handling: generally satisfactory
• Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building: improvement necessary
• Management of food safety: generally satisfactory

So the 2 comes from the premises, not from how food is handled or managed. That area covers layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control.

No reply from the business was posted on the register on 2 October, and no new rating was pending.

Who got a 5

Ten of the 25 inspections were school kitchens and nurseries. All ten scored 5:

• school kitchens at Thames Ditton First School, Thames Ditton Junior School, St Paul’s Catholic Primary in Thames Ditton, Long Ditton St Mary’s CofE School, St Andrew’s CofE Primary in Cobham and Walton Oak
• nurseries at Stepping Stones in Thames Ditton, Little Bear’s Day-Care in Walton, Little Acorns in Cobham and Oakley House in Thames Ditton

The rest included Walton & Hersham Foodbank on Hersham Road, The Key Cafe at St Peter’s Community Hub in West Molesey, Esher Tandoori on Church Street, Waitrose on Weybridge High Street, and two East Molesey restaurants on Walton Road, Nimtoh and Tex Mex Ldn.

Eight of the 25 were marked “very good” in all three areas the inspector checks. Waitrose in Weybridge and the foodbank were two of them.

September against August

August was a rougher month. Of the 52 ratings dated August on the register, 35 scored 5 and six scored 2 or below:

• Indian Bites, Hersham Road, Hersham: 1, on 7 August
• Walton BBQ, Hersham Road, Walton: 1, on 4 August
• Morleys, Hersham Road, Walton: 1, on 26 August
• Brooklands Hotel, Weybridge: 2, on 11 August
• Waffles, The Parade, Claygate: 2, on 25 August

The borough as a whole

Across Elmbridge, 977 premises currently hold a rating. 741 of them, about 76%, are rated 5. Another 135 are rated 4 and 56 are rated 3.

At the other end, 45 registrations are rated 2 or below: 3 at 0, 19 at 1 and 23 at 2. That is 44 businesses, because St George’s Hill Golf Club holds two registrations, both rated 1.

They are not spread evenly. Weybridge has 13 of the 45, the most of any town. Walton-on-Thames has nine, and East Molesey has eight, six of them on Walton Road. Hersham has five and Esher four.

Some of these ratings are old. The earliest, Born From Necessity on Walton Road in East Molesey, dates from December 2024. A business can ask for a new inspection once it has made the improvements, so an old low rating does not always mean nothing has changed. Two of the 45 show a new rating as pending.

Every Elmbridge premises rated 0, 1 or 2

The weakest areas column lists any of the three areas scored “improvement necessary” or worse. The register does not publish the area scores for two of the ratings.

What it means for you

• Check before you order. Every rating is on the Food Standards Agency site, searchable by name or postcode. Businesses in England do not have to display their sticker, so the website is the only reliable check.
• A 0 means urgent improvement is necessary. A 1 means major improvement, and a 2 means some improvement. Ratings of 3 and above are generally satisfactory or better.
• Ratings are a snapshot. They record what the officer found on the day. They say nothing about the quality of the food.
• Businesses can answer back. Any business can appeal within 21 days, publish a right to reply on its register page, or ask for a re-inspection once it has fixed the problems.
